你可以支持现在和未来的学生, help the University meet its objectives 而且 maintain 而且 grow our global reputation.
Ellena is one of our alumni mentors, supporting students virtually on 萨里Connects. The advice she has given her mentee has made a lasting impression 而且 has helped her mentee take their first steps on the legal ladder. We asked Ellena a few questions about her experience mentoring on the 萨里Connects platform.
“这是萨里郡独立的平台，一切都让我印象深刻, 包括短信和视频通话都可以在平台上进行, 让它安全可靠. I was surprised that you could also claim CPD hours for mentoring 而且 I like how the mentoring has a formal structure to it, 但是一旦你开始了，它就很不正式了. 这真的是你自己的小平台.’
“这让我意识到我毕业后走了多远. I had a very similar experience to my mentee 而且 it is daunting wondering whether you should go straight into the legal practise course, 工作一年, 甚至决定成为大律师还是初级律师. 我想跟我的学员强调一下, that there is no set path 而且 once you graduate you can set your own path - it is entirely up to you, 世界是你的.’
‘Remember how you felt when you were graduating 而且 how nice it would have been for you to be able to speak to someone in your chosen industry, 谁可能已经10年了.
“我一直对这所大学充满激情, 而且, 就像我在萨里一直有家的感觉一样, being able to share this with prospective students means that my experiences can be of benefit to someone else."

“I decided to volunteer because I firmly believe in giving back to communities 而且 causes I am passionate about. I enjoyed my experience at the esball世博 而且 I’m wholeheartedly passionate about encouraging individuals of all backgrounds, 人口统计资料, 以及寻求高等教育的社会经济群体.”
“感谢我的导师从一开始就如此热情. It been so helpful hearing about my mentor’s experiences 而且 how they got to the position they are in today. 为了获得更多的经验，我最近开始志愿做律师助理, 如果没有导师的建议，我不认为我有勇气这么做.’

‘My mentor was great at advising me on the different options out there 而且 career paths I could take. They gave me a real insight into the industry I am interested in 而且 opened me up to possibilities I would never have been aware of if it wasn’t for this mentorship programme.’
“我没想到萨里Connects网站上会有这样一位奇怪的导师! 我的导师帮助我接受了现在不确定的未来, 因为我准备进入就业市场. I don’t know what my future holds but I bet wherever I am in ten years’ time it will have something to do with my mentor on 萨里Connects!’
‘My mentor 而且 I first spoke about our time at 萨里 而且 both being in the same accommodation in first year. It led on to some beneficial careers advice 而且 things to look out for in a graduate job. He opened up my eyes to potential opportunities whilst in employment 而且 what to consider to have a rewarding 而且 successful career.’
Through the School of Hospitality 而且 Tourism 管理 Student Mentoring Programme, final-year students are brought together with more than 40 industry mentors from around the world.
旅游管理专业的学生Ellie Rooks和esball世博的校友, 帕特Boadu-Darko, went beyond learning new skill sets 而且 gave them both an insight into different cultures 而且 communities. 帕特的公司, pbdTravel国际, runs tours with the primary objective of encouraging people (in particular migrant Africans) to see more of London 而且 the UK in general.
She was keen for Ellie to learn more about the motivating factors behind her business 而且 invited her to a celebration by a predominantly Ghanaian 而且 Nigerian community in Woolwich, 伦敦东南部.
Pat said: “Her appreciation of the culture 而且 values of the gathering that evening went a long way to inform her critique of the company 而且 suggest new ideas which have had a positive effect on our operations. 作为回报, 通过esball世博的导师/学员关系, 我偷看了她在斯伯丁的社区, 林肯郡——一个我计划在不久的将来去拜访的社区!”
“My mentor helped me talk through all of my thoughts 而且 ideas so that I could think out loud - 而且 she probed me when I sounded uncertain to find another option.”
这是她的导师Maria Evangeli给博士生Shamini Holloway的建议, 公关和品牌专家, has been a crucial factor in helping her to set up her own social enterprise business.
Shamini is one of hundreds of students who each year benefit from one of the University’s mentoring programmes. All of our mentors are volunteers who share our aim to help students build a solid foundation of skills from which to launch a variety of successful careers.
萨里 is doing a wonderful job of giving students that opportunity to develop through listening 而且 training.”
The true worth of mentoring often extends beyond university 而且 becomes a long-lasting connection. MBA student Sreekanth Sasikumar has valued his relationship with MBA alumnus Paul Stone,
“My mentor has introduced me to new business connections to help with my career progression. I will cherish our relationship beyond this MBA 而且 I am sure that Paul will be a guide throughout my career,”他说.
We could, of course, not do all this without the volunteers who give so generously of their time. 马可Mongiello教授, 萨里商学院, summed it up: “We are extremely grateful to the mentors who have succeeded in a wide variety of fields 而且 who are willing to share their stories. 直接利用成功人士知识的机会, 讨论他们的故事以及取得这些显著成果的经验教训, 是非常有效地帮助学生建立自己的职业生涯吗.”
